Kenyan Leaders and Fans React to Junior Starlets’ Victory
President Ruto Applauds the Team
Leading the wave of congratulations was President William Ruto, who praised the team’s performance and potential. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his admiration for the young stars.
“Congratulations to our Under-17 Starlets team for a resounding 3-0 victory over Uganda in Nairobi this afternoon.”
“Your triumph is a statement that Kenya’s young talents are ready to conquer the big stage. Your passion, discipline, and teamwork have inspired a nation.”
“Let this be just the beginning. Keep the fire burning, keep striving for excellence, and let the world see what Kenya is made of. Congratulations once again!”
Government Backs Grassroots Talent Development
Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum attributed the victory to continued investment in grassroots football and promised further support for the team.
“What a remarkable afternoon for Kenyan football! This victory reflects President William Ruto’s commitment to grassroots talent development.”
“Young stars like Elizabeth Ochaka have risen through structured programs, proving that Kenya is on the right path in nurturing future football stars.”
“As the Sports Ministry, we pledge continued support for the Junior Starlets as they prepare for Cameroon. With the new federation leadership, Kenyan football is on an upward trajectory. #RoadToWorldCup.”

Kenyan Fans Celebrate but Call for Improvements
Football enthusiasts were quick to celebrate the team’s triumph, sharing their thoughts on social media.
Coach Mildred Cheche Earns Praise
Simiyu Wanjala commended head coach Mildred Cheche for her impressive work and predicted even greater achievements for her.
“Congratulations to Coach Mildred Cheche for guiding the team to success. I believe she has what it takes to coach in Europe one day.”
Brenda Achieng Impresses
Anthony Ndegwa singled out Brenda Achieng for her game-changing performance.
“Brenda Achieng is a national treasure. She brought incredible energy into the attack. If Kenya qualifies for the World Cup, she will surely attract offers from top leagues around the world.”
Calls to Improve Efficiency in Front of Goal
Despite the win, some fans noted areas that need improvement. Imbugi Odemu urged the team to be more clinical in their finishing.
“Yes, we won, but the 3-0 scoreline does not reflect how dominant we were. We wasted so many scoring chances. Against tougher opponents like Cameroon, we might not get as many opportunities, so we must improve our finishing.”
Optimism for Kenya’s Football Future
Amos Opiyo was encouraged by the team’s overall performance and saw a bright future for Kenyan women’s football.
“This team is on another level! Their passing, confidence on the ball, and hunger to win are commendable. If we continue investing in them, Kenya will soon dominate not just Africa, but the world.”
