The Kenya Lionesses closed their Rugby Africa Women’s Cup 2024 campaign in dominant fashion, securing a massive 49-0 victory over Uganda’s Lady Cranes at Stade Makis in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Heading into the clash, both sides were eyeing a win and hoping for a favorable outcome in the South Africa vs Madagascar fixture. However, it was Kenya who rose to the occasion, showcasing discipline, power, and tactical superiority throughout the match.
Slow Start, But Kenya Finds Momentum
The first half began with both teams struggling to find rhythm, with several handling errors and execution issues. Kenya eventually settled and took control in the 19th minute when prop Natasha Emali scored the opening try after sustained pressure by Kenya’s dominant forward pack.
The Lionesses then capitalized on Uganda’s Proscovia Mukyala being sent to the sin bin for foul play. Taking full advantage of the extra player, Kenya launched a powerful maul deep in Uganda’s 22, setting up Sheila Chajira to finish off a pick-and-go that began with Faith Livoi.
Kenya’s momentum continued as Nolin Khaleyi burst through the Ugandan defense to score another try, helping the Lionesses head into halftime with a solid 20-0 lead. Strong winds made kicking difficult, causing most conversion attempts to fall short.

Second-Half Domination Seals the Deal
Kenya showed no signs of slowing down in the second half. A penalty try stretched the lead further before substitute Stellah Wafula scored her first try of the game.
Later, a slick inside pass from Maureen Murita found vice-captain Edith Nariaka, who sprinted past Uganda’s defense to score. Wafula added her second try late in the game, capping off an emphatic 49-0 win for the Lionesses.
