The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) appears set to part ways with Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba, regardless of the outcome in Tuesday’s crucial WAFCON qualifier against Tunisia in Tunis.
Kenya’s qualification hopes took a major hit following Friday’s 0-0 stalemate against the North Africans at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, leaving Starlets with an uphill task in the return leg. To keep their dream alive, they must avoid defeat in Tunis—a daunting challenge considering the team’s current form.
Odemba Under Fire for Team Selection
Odemba has faced mounting criticism, particularly for her tactical decisions, including the controversial move to introduce Tanzanian Women’s Premier League top scorer Jentrrix Shikangwa only in the 90th minute. Frustrated fans reportedly attempted to confront the coach after the match, further amplifying discontent over the team’s performance.
Amidst the growing frustration, FKF has reportedly already made the decision to relieve Odemba of her duties. A source familiar with the situation confirmed that Tuesday’s match would be her last in charge of the national team.
“Unless something drastic changes, this will be her final game as Starlets coach. The federation feels that fresh leadership is needed to steer the team forward. The squad has potential, but a new approach is necessary to get the best out of them,” the source revealed.

Alexander Alumirah Poised to Take Over
Former Vihiga Queens coach Alexander Alumirah is widely expected to be Odemba’s successor. Alumirah, who previously coached the Starlets in 2022 under the FKF Caretaker Committee, is seen as an ideal candidate due to his deep knowledge of women’s football.
FKF had initially considered having Alumirah travel with the team to Tunis alongside Odemba, but the plan was ultimately shelved. However, sources indicate his appointment is only a matter of time.
“The federation is confident in Alumirah’s ability to guide the team. He understands women’s football well and has a strong track record. His appointment is all but confirmed,” the source added.

Odemba’s Tenure in Numbers
Since taking over in September 2023, Odemba has overseen eight matches, registering two wins—against Cameroon in a WAFCON qualifier and the Philippines in a friendly. She also managed draws against Botswana and Tunisia while suffering defeats to Cameroon, Botswana, Chinese Taipei, and Russia.
With FKF already mapping out a new technical direction, the Tunis fixture is likely to mark the end of Odemba’s tenure, paving the way for a new leadership approach within the Starlets’ camp.
